The police are trying to regulate the movement of pedestrians in
Yerevan and have people cross streets at crossings.
Apparently, it is the effort of the new chief of police Vova Gasparyan
who is trying to address an issue which his predecessor Alik Sargsyan
tried to solve but failed and backed away. We'll wait and see with
what result Vova Gasparyan will back away. At least, he will not spare
effort to appear more efficient than Alik Sargsyan. It is something
usual when the officials of Armenia try to appear more effective than
their predecessors in so-called innocent arenas where no limitation
of personal interests of authorities is required.
In the meantime, the governor of Syunik region, Surik Khachatryan
(Liska) gave a nice present to the chief of police Vova Gasparyan. In
the lobby of the Marriott Armenia Hotel, Surik Khachatryan hit the
business lady Sylvia Hambardzumyan. It sounds strange but this act
of violence is an excellent opportunity for Vova Gasparyan to make
everyone equal before the law.
Therefore, it is simply necessary to conduct an unbiased investigation
and hold Surik Khachatryan responsible for hooliganism, antisocial
behavior if he really assaulted the lady.
Certainly, evidence is necessary. According to Sylva Hambardzumyan,
there were others, including members of parliament. Of course, there is
little hope that they will dare to testify against Liska, if certainly
they are not instructed to be courageous. But there are cameras in
Marriott Armenia which must have recorded the incident, and the police
must have obtained the recording promptly after the incident.
However, there is no doubt that everything depends on the decision
of the president office on Surik Khachatryan, whether he will be
dismissed, asked to resign, or will be slightly held responsible for
hitting a woman, such as a fine of several thousands of drams.
By the way, Sylvia Hambardzumyan announced that the governor of Syunik
had stolen her equipment from the mine owned by her. It means that
Vova Gasparyan must not only investigate the assault but also the
theft. So, he has a lot of work to do regarding Liska.
And Vova Gasparyan announced that he comes to translate words into
action. We'll see.
