Sinan Ogan has repeated the official Turkish position on the
ratification of rapprochement accords with Armenia.
"The normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations is impossible
if Armenia does not leave Nagorno-Karabakh and give up groundless
statements against Turkey," the opposition Nationalist Movement Party
MP said during a Caucasus Journalists Network online conference,
News.am reported.
He argued that ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols was a
"difficult issue".
"I am a member of the Turkish parliament's committee on foreign
affairs. I do not believe that the parliament will ratify these
protocols. Before ratification, Armenia should withdraw from the
occupied lands. Moreover, Armenia should give up groundless allegations
against Turkey," Ogan said. "Although the US has put forward certain
requirements on this issue, Turkey will not fulfill them."
The two protocols on the establishment of diplomatic ties and
development of bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey were
signed in October 2009 in Zurich, but stalled the following year and
have not been ratified by either parliament.
Turkey's Council of Ministers returned the protocols to the country's
Grand National Assembly following elections in June this year.
