The Armenian authorities state the necessity of fair elections but
use administrative resources for the benefit of the ruling Republican
Party of Armenia (RPA), Anahit Bakhshyan, MP from the oppositional
Heritage Party, said in parliament on Tuesday.
She said that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan speaks of delimitation
of power and business; Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan speaks of the
intention to hold transparent elections, but their steps run counter
to their words. "Education, one of the key spheres, is politicized
to a great extent. The premier is conducting a political propaganda
by handing out party membership cards at schools. But the meetings
of Heritage Leader Raffi Hovannisian with the students are banned:
the authorities qualify these meetings as a political act. The
headmasters of many schools are RPA members today. And at some schools
apple-polishing is obvious: the RPA emblems are hanging on the walls
of the schools. Such lawlessness of the ruling party under conditions
of no political competition cannot contribute to holding of transparent
elections", Bakhshyan said.
To remind, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said at the Congress of the
European People's Party in Brussels that the Armenian authorities
are going to hold the fairest elections throughout the history of
independent Armenia.
