YEREVAN.- Armenia's diamond jewelry sector is coming out of the crisis,
Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan told news reporters, on Wednesday.

He noted that the sector was already experiencing a decline, prior to
the 2008-2009 global crisis. In the case when Armenia was annually
exporting US$ 300 million-worth of diamonds, in the early 2000s-and
which comprised close to 40 percent of total exports-$85 million-worth
of diamonds were exported in the first nine months of 2011.

But ever since the agreements reached with Russia's Alrosa Company,
starting from December 2009, Armenia attained a stable source for
    supplying raw material.

As per Davtyan, 1-2 diamond jewelry enterprises were functioning in
Armenia, at the beginning of the year, whereas there are six, now,
and their number is expected to reach ten, by the year's end.

Also, Armenia imported close to $40 million-worth of diamonds from
Russia, in 2011, and this should surpass $50 million, next year.
