TURKEY IS READY TO FACE ITS HISTORY AND 'DISCUSS 1915 EVENTS'

Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (parliament) has
said his country is ready to face its own history and discuss the
"1915 events".
Speaking at the parliament Cemil Cicek said that Turkey has opened
its archives and is ready to discuss whatever results historians may
come up with over the Armenian Genocide.
"We are ready to face our history over the 1915 events. We have
opened our archives and are ready to discuss the works of historians,"
he was quoted by Turkish media as saying.
"I am sure that instead of making judgments based on wrong information,
it would be better to discuss the realities presented by our
scientists," he added.
The Armenian Genocide was perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire early in
20th century when an estimated 1.5 million Armenians were massacred
and marched to death in the Syrian dessert of Deir Ez-Zor.
More than 20 states have recognized the Armenian Genocide. Turkey
argues those killings did not constitute genocide.
