Virginia Apelian To Speak College Alumni Association Authors Series

    Saturday, November 19, 2011

CRANFORD -Virginia Apelian, a 1973 graduate, is the first speaker in
the Union County College Alumni Association Authors Series.

On Nov. 20, beginning at 2 p.m., Apelian will speak about her book
`Musa Dagh Girl: Daughter of Armenian Genocide Survivors.' The event
will be held in the Roy Smith Theater on the college's Cranford
campus. Apelian will recount her arrival in America as a young girl
and the culture shock she experienced. She will recount how she
dedicated herself to fulfilling her dreams and eventually does so
through hard work, loving parents, and her faith in God.

Apelian's story tells of deportation, refugee camps, and the
historical background of the Armenians. She recounts the First
Genocide of the 20th century, the one waged by the Ottoman Turkish
Empire against the Armenians that began in 1915 and continues to
    impact foreign relations policies today.

In addition to her degree from Union County College, Apelian holds a
degree from Douglass College of Rutgers University. She served as the
first woman Council President of the Township of Clark in 1982.

The college's Cranford campus is located at 1033 Springfield Avenue.
Admission and parking for this event is free and all are invited to
attend. For more information about Union County College, visit
