GERMAN TV HOST PRAISES ALIYEVS CHARISMA

Major German TV channel ProSieben broadcasting in Germany, Austria and
Switzerland covered Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyevs personality
and praised his policy in a program aired on Thursday. He somewhat
resembles a grand master, and his policy is like a chess board, said
Thomas Nitsche, host of the TV channels President show.

Self-confident Aliyev very subtly and skillfully makes the whole
region dependent on him. The Azerbaijani president has no intention to
concede on the Karabakh conflict [with Armenia]. He has repeatedly
stated in the international arena that he would not cede a single
patch of Azerbaijani land [occupied by Armenian armed forces since a
war in the 1990s]. He is a very intelligent and far-sighted
politician. Nitsche also revealed interesting details of conversations
between French and US Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Barack Obama on
the sidelines of the G20 summit at Cannes. During his tour of the
South Caucasus, Sarkozy tried to talk Aliyev out of [launching]
military action against Armenia, Nitsche said. But the Azerbaijani
leader got his way. Obama further enquired about Sarkozys visit, and
the French president whispered to him, It is hard to resist Aliyev, he
is like Alexander the Great. Nitsche believes that Azerbaijan could
launch military action against Armenia as early as next year. Aliyev
is no longer holding back that he is bracing up for war, he said. It
is evident that he will not make any concessions.*
