ACTIVISTS PROTEST AGAINST DEMOLITION OF BUILDING ON ARAMI ST. 30

    Tert.am
    24.11.11

A group of activists gathered around a building, on Arami Street 30
in central Yerevan, protesting against a government decision that
recognized the territory as of public interest.

Most of the activists joined the campaign through social networking
website Facebook that made a call for protest against the demolition
of the building that once housed several prominent Armenians.

The number of the activists grew rapidly and the line reached the
    neighboring Abovyan Street.

The Yerevan Municipality had also reacted to the Facebook call for
protest and had sent Head of the Department of Urban Development
Committee at the Elders' Council, Hrayr Poghosyan, and Head of
Yerevan's Kentron district Gagik Gianjumyan, to hold talks with
    protestors.

The latter informed the protestors that in 2008 the territory was
recognized by the government as one of public interest and therefore
the demolition of the building is legal.

They also informed the protestors that the building is not included
in the list of premises that are considered to be of exclusive
    architectural value.
