THE COALITION TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN ARMENIA STARTS A 16-DAY CAMPAIGN

The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women in Armenia will hold a
number of events to draw the attention of the society to the issue
during a 16-day campaign that kicks off on November 25.
Studies show that about 40% of women in Armenia experience some kind
of abuse. The first and last days of the campaign are symbolic.
According to the UN calendar, November 25 is the International Day for
the Elimination of Violence against Women, while December 10 is marked
as Human Rights Day. More than 3 000 organizations from 164 countries
of the world participate in awareness-raising events annually.
The campaign of the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women will
start with a march accompanied by the "Wall of shame" open-air action.
The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women in Armenia was formed
following the tragic death on October 1st 2010 of Zaruhi Petrosyan,
a 20 years old mother was beaten to death by her husband and
mother-in-law in Masis, Armenia.
