Under the Government's 2010-15 national strategy, the Ministry of
Healthcare has approved an action plan aimed at the prevention,
early detection and treatment of child disabilities and deviations.
In the frameworks of the program, Arabkir Joint Medical Center has
opened a new child development and rehabilitation center in the
city of Gavar (Gagharkunik province). This center is bigger and more
comfortable compared to the older clinic which was too small to serve
all the children in the city.
It is expected to offer rehabilitation treatment and services to
around 200 patients and conduct over 15,000 visits annually.
According to the Arabkir JMC Director Ara Babloyan (who is also the
head of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Healthcare),
the opening of the center revealed that the children benefiting from
rehabilitation services need a long-term care and treatment.
"The regions lack specialists, so we train the local people. The
resource center that's being established will deal with the training
of primary healthcare specialists," he said.
President Serzh Sargsyan who is now in Gavar region on a working visit,
has already seen the new center.
