You can meet outrageous prices in touristic centers of Armenia.
Director of Rumea travel agency says the cost of New Year travel
packages to Tsakhkadzor for one person starts from AMD 340 thousand
up to 800 thousand.
He noted that it is surprising but there are no more tickets. And
wondered: "If people buy these tickets, why should they not set
these prices?"
According to Ruben Grigoryan, only the rich can afford New Year
holiday in Armenia. Few people can pay 400-500 thousand for 7 days.
Traveling to European countries costs this much too. He also noted
that touristic packages in Armenia are more expensive than in Georgia.
Ruben Grigoryan says the tourism sphere needs to be educated and
infrastructures developed. He said Armenia needs simple hotels for
tourists, while Armenian hotel owners have 4 or 5 star hotels only.
The head of the Institute of Tourism of Armenia Robert Minasyan raised
the issue on the lack of personnel. He said that we cannot use the old
methods in Armenia because the world goes in new directions. We need
skilled professionals who could present goods in the market. "Tourism
is not only tourism but also industry which boosts the development
of the economy".
Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan recalled that though the tourism is
a priority for the government but the state's resources are scarce. He
presented the achievements of the sphere saying that this year the
sphere recorded a 13.5% growth. According to the Minister the number
of tourists visiting Armenia will reach 800 thousand by the end of
the year and in a few years we will have welcome 1 million tourists
annually.
