LOS ANGELES-Governor Brown has appointed Maria Mehranian, Managing
Partner of Cordoba Corporation and long time resident of La Canada
Flintridge, to the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board.
Mehranian, who is known for her ability to build consensus among
stakeholders of water industries, businesses and the environmental
community, began her first term in 2008 as the appointee of
then-Governor Schwarzenegger. She has since been instrumental in
developing a number of standards to improve the water quality of the
Los Angeles River and Santa Monica Bay. "I am honored to continue
to take part in the Water Board's efforts in advancing the water
quality agenda in our region; including the development of advanced
and sustainable storage and treatment measures to reduce our reliance
on imported water," said Mehranian.
As water supply and water quality remain major challenges in the Los
Angeles region and Southern California, the health of citizens, the
region, and the economy once again hinges on the availability of clean
water. In this light water becomes more than an environmental concern -
it becomes an issue that needs to be dealt with on all levels. This
includes the efficient and innovative storage and treatment of our
water resources to sustain and develop our urban fabric.
Mehranian's successful professional background and track record in
dealing with challenging infrastructure needs in urban environments has
enabled her to navigate the complexities of California's increasingly
urgent water quality issues and fragile infrastructure.
She has been the Managing Partner of Cordoba Corporation since 1992
and Vice President of Urban Transportation Planning from 1987 to 1992.
Mehranian was recently appointed to California International Genocide
Commission by Speaker John Perez, and is a past member of La Caņada
Flintridge Planning commission, serving from 2000-2008.
