ARMENIAN ASTROLOGIST'S STUDY ON THE GALAXIES INCLUDED IN UNESCO'S MEMORY OF THE WORLD

World renowned astrologist Benjamin Margaryan's Study on the Galaxies
has been registered in the Memory of the World International Register
by the decision of the UNESCO Director General and based on the
conclusion given by the International Advisory Committee. With this,
the Memory of the World International Register has been replenished
with the second documented Armenian heritage after the Mesrop Mashtots
Matenadaran was presented in 1997.
Currently, the Memory of the World International Register includes
239 inscriptions of nearly 100 countries, including the chronology of
the 13th century Radzivils describing the origin of Europeans, the
18th century Chinese imperial archives, the archives of the League
of Nations in 1919-1946, the works by Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin,
the works by Nikolay Copernicus and more.
The appeal for Benjamin Margaryan's Study on the Galaxies was prepared
by the Observatory in Byurakan, the UNESCO Armenian Commission and
was presented to the UNESCO central station in 2010.
UNESCO's Memory of the World International Register was inaugurated
in 1992 with the purpose of preventing the disappearance of valuable
collections of archives and libraries around the world. The program
features the UNESCO Memory of the World International Register, which
presents a list of documented heritage that includes documents,
manuscripts, audiovisual materials and library archives and
collections. They have been recognized as the embodiment of values
of special significance and must be documented and preserved for
all mankind.
