PROTEST FORCES CANCELLATION OF TURKISH PARADE

Armenian community objections have forced organizers to cancel next
week's Turkish parade event in Hollywood.

The Armenian Youth Federation and Armenian National Committee called
Monday's planned Hollywood Boulevard parade by an Ottoman military
marching bank an affront to victims of Turkey's 1915-1918 genocide
    of Armenians.

The parade was designed to generate interest in the Anatolian Cultures
Festival in Costa Mesa starting Oct. 6. It celebrates all cultures
that have at one time lived in what is now Turkey, including Armenians.

The Los Angeles Times ( http://lat.ms/qHNY8P) says the Hollywood
parade permit was pulled Wednesday by the Pacifica Institute, which
    organized the event.

Institute spokeswoman Hafsa Raied says the group promotes intercultural
dialogue and the uproar took the organization by surprise.
