PACE TO DEBATE RESOLUTION ON ARMENIA ON WEDNESDAY

    Tert.am
    03.10.11

On October 5, the Council of Europe Parliamentary Committee (PACE) is
going to debate the draft resolution on the functioning of democratic
    resolution in Armenia.

The discussion was earlier slated for Friday, October the 7th but it
was rescheduled as one of the co-reporteurs is going to be absent on
that day, PACE President Mevlout Chavushoglu said at a news conference
on Monday, following his speech at the PACE autimn session.

Chavushoglu's statement came in response Aravot daily's question
about his opinion on resolution clause which calls for considering
the chapter on the March 2008 post-electoral turmoil in Armenia. The
correspondent of the Armenian newspaper was particularly interested
to know whether it wouldn't be right to consider the chapter closed
after those responsible were really found.

"First of all it is the work of the íonitoring Committee and the
co-rapporteurs, and I don't want to interfere in the job of the
co-rapporteurs. It has not been decided by the committee, it will
be debated on Wednesday. We decided to have it on Friday but one of
the co-rapporteurs is leaving on Wednesday afternoon. So we are going
to have this debate on Wednesday," Chavushoglu said. "Let's see what
the Assembly decides but this issue is very serious as I said during
my official visit and also when the president of Armenia was here. I
also still keep reminding the authorities that this issue has to be
investigated very seriously and it shouldn't be politicized because
    ten people died."
