Speaker Nabih Berri on Tuesday met with Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan as part of the former's official visit to the country.
According to a statement issued by Berri's office, the speaker said
that the sit-down was "a precious opportunity to strengthen [ties]
with Armenia."
He also said that he discussed with Sargsyan the developments in the
Arab world.
The Armenian president, in turn, welcomed the Lebanese delegation
and commended "deep ties between the two countries."
Sargsyan also voiced the need to "enhance bilateral ties in all
fields."
Berri arrived in Armenia on Monday for a three-day official visit.
Meanwhile, Berri also sent a letter to Syrian Grand Mufti Ahmad
Badreddin Hassoun to express condolences for the killing of his son,
Saria Hassoun.
State news agency SANA said that Hassoun was killed "by gunfire from
a group of armed terrorists."
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's troops have cracked down on protests
against almost five decades of Baath rule which broke out mid-March,
killing over 2,700 people and triggering a torrent of international
condemnation.
However, Assad's regime blames the violence raging for more than six
months in Syria on "armed groups."
