The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has voted
today to grant "Partner for democracy" status to the Palestinian
National Council. Naira Zohrabyan, member of Armenian delegation to
PACE, told Panorama.am that the issue has served as an example to
raise another vital issue for Armenia.
"This has served as a perfect moment to find out why a similar solution
cannot be found for Nagorno-Karabakh," said the MP.
Mrs. Zohrabyan has added that the issue is logical, since the Council
of Europe doesn't discuss the recognition of Palestine but the MPs
have voted to grant "Partner for democracy" status to the Palestinian
National Council.
"Member of our delegation Armen Rustamyan raised the issue saying
if there is such a precedent why the same cannot be applied for
Nagorno-Karabakh. And in stead of forming some useless committees,
such a solution could be timely," said Mrs. Zohrabyan.
To conclude, the Armenian MP has signified the attendance of
Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentarians to PACE. "I think this is a serious
precedent and that the Armenian delegation must put forth efforts to
achieve the goal."
