BEIRUT | iloubnan.info / NNA - October 05, 2011 The Armenian University
of Yerevan granted on Wednesday House Speaker Nabih Berri an honorary
Doctorate in economics during a dinner banquet held at the University
campus in presence of ranking dignitaries and students.
Berri was described as one of the top Lebanese leaders and one of
the most prominent persons amongst Lebanese and Arab.
He was also deemed "man of dialogue and consent, and friend of the
Armenian people."
Speaker Berri delivered a word on this occasion uttering appreciation
and joy on the honorary doctorate he has been granted.
He also thanked the President of Armenia Hovick Abrahamian and his
Armenian counterpart for inviting the Lebanese delegation as a gesture
that reinforces ties between the Lebanese and Armenian parliaments
and people.
"This honorary title doubles up my responsibility in reactivating
cooperation between Lebanese and Armenians," Berri declared, wondering
why not to boost the economic relations in a manner that meets the
historical and intimate ties which bind the two countries to each
other.
He accordingly called on the Lebanese and Armenian governments to
support the countries' exchanged products sparing the consumers the
transfer costs.
"Lebanon can easily be the Armenian gate to the Arab world while
Armenia becomes Lebanon's gate to a number of former soviet republics,"
Berri hoped.
Separately, Berri received at his residence in Armenia the Armenian
Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian with talks featuring high on
bilateral ties and latest developments in the region.
