French President Nicolas Sarkozy's visit to the South Caucasus region
will accelerate the Karabakh settlement process, according to an
Azeri official.
"Sarkozy's visit to the region may increase the activeness of France
in the South Caucasus," Ali Hasanov, the head of the Public-Political
Affairs Department at the Azerbaijani presidential administration
has said. "France, as a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group,
has potentials to influence the process. In that respect, Sarkozy's
visit may positively affect the settlement of the Karabakh conflict."
Sarkozy left for to Baku earlier today after completing his visit to
Yerevan. The French leader is later expected to travel to Tbilisi,
Georgia.
