Yerkir: Armenian fan beaten for chanting `Macedonia'
10:37 - 08.10.11
The paper claims that two young Armenian men decided to check the
extent the Armenian fans are ready to defend their national football
team before the Armenia-Macedonia Euro-2012 qualifier.
Armen Galstyan, 24, and Varoujan Hovhannisyan, had waved the national
flag of Macedonia and were chanting `Macedonia' on Amiryan Street in
Yerevan.
`At first the by-passers would stare at us and pass by, but seeing
that we continue chanting a group of boys came up to us and started a
skirmish. Before we would manage to explain, they were already beating
Varoujan,' Armen Galstyan told the paper.
Further, the paper claims that the young men were, however, happy with
what had happened.
`True, my friend was beaten up, but we would be disappointed if people
would pass indifferently,' Armen Galstyan said.
Varoujan Hovhannisyan refused to comment on the incident.
