    Macedonia Thumped in Armenia 4-1

    Friday, 07 October 2011

Armenia outran, outplayed and outsmarted Macedonia in the first half.
The hosts have a deserved 2-0 lead.

M.P. Pizzelli and Mkhitaryan scored both goals within a six minute
span (28, 34). The speedy Armenians make the Macedonian players look
even slower from what they normally appear.

During the second goal, Mkhitaryan simply took the ball from the right
side of the field and ran for 20 meters to the left without being
approached from any Macedonian player. He finally took a shot just
outside the 16m box and scored! The Armenians are good at chess, so
this would qualify as a checkmate!

To vet their frustrations, the Macedonian team unable to keep up with
the speedy Armenians constantly fouls for which they have been issued
    4 yellow cards already.

Although the qualifications were long finished for Macedonia, it
doesn't bode well for John Toshack in his preparations for the WC
Qualifying campaign. He needs to think of revamping the team,
specifically removing certain players from the team (midfield and
    defense).
Macedonia started playing slightly better after Sumulikoski received
his second yellow card and was removed from the game. Shikov scored to
make the scoreline less embarrassing. However Sirksian made sure the
embarrasment stays with the Macedonian after adding a fourth goal in
    the 91st minute.

Macedonia's Daniel Georgievski (need to verify who wore #2) simply
strolled next to Sirksian and watched him score... The goal was
strange to say the least, the play was so nonchalant it looked as if
the Macedonian defender was playing for Armenia! Brutal to watch!

On a sidenote, Armenia found the perfect way to motivate their
players. In a very clever fashion, the Yerevan media made up a story
how the Turkish PM had offered money to Macedonia for a win in
    Yerevan.
