Russia interested in development of Russian-language media in Armenia
YEREVAN October 7
Russia is very much interested in the development of the
Russian-language media in Armenia and the appearance of new
Russian-language Internet portals, Russian Ambassador to Armenia
Vyacheslav Kovalenko said at a roundtable.
The roundtable, "The Russian-Language Media Space in Armenia: The
Present and the Future" was organized by the Institute of Eurasian
Research with the assistance of the Presidential Department for
Inter-Regional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.
The Russian language "is an important instrument of our relations, a
bridge to the future, which plays an integration role and strengthens
Russian-Armenian humanitarian contacts, which are an element of our
strategic relationship," Kovalenko said.
In the opinion of head of the Presidential Department for
Inter-Regional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Sergei
Vinokurov, the interest in the Russian language in Armenia, especially
amongst the young, has grown a lot lately. "They are increasingly
aware of the fact that the Russian language is an instrument of
integration into the Russian and world culture and science, an
important instrument of inter-state communication," he said.
Multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Armenia and a high degree
of mutual integration determine the high public demand for the
Russian-language media in Armenia, he said.
The Russian-language media in Armenia solves a very important task,
that of the preservation and broadening of the Russian-language
audience in the rather ethnically homogenous Armenian society,
President of the Institute of Eurasian Research Valery Tursunov said.
"In order to keep this interest, the Russian-language media in Armenia
must be interesting and diverse, objective and topical; it must be
targeted for the strengthening of the Armenian-Russian allied
relations and propose new ideas and cooperation areas," he said.
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharian said that the two
countries should learn more each other's life.
