Sarkozy urges Armenia, Azerbaijan to resume Nagorno Karabakh talks
YEREVAN October 7
French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Friday urged Armenia and
Azerbaijan to resume negotiations on the settlement in the mostly
Armenian populated Azerbaijani enclave of Nagorno Karabakh.
"These are political negotiations with neighbours for the sake of the
establishment of a lasting peace," the French president said at the
end of his state visit to Yerevan.
"The sooner negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan resume, the
better," as "immobility will lead to war," Sarkozy said. According to
him, there is the only way out - "the renewal of discussions between
Azerbaijanis and Armenians under the aegis of the Minsk Group".
France together with Russia and the USA is one of co-chairmen of that
OSCE group. "You both equally need this peace," the French leader
said, referring to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
