Sarkozy calls for peaceful resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
YEREVAN. Oct 7
French President Nicolas Sarkozy believes it is important for Armenia
and Azerbaijan to achieve peace.
"I have asked the president of Armenia to continue the peace cause
with Azerbaijan. This is in the best interests of the two countries,
and it is very important. I hope the parties will achieve peace,"
Sarkozy said at a joint press conference with Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan in Yerevan on Friday.
The only solution is the resumption of talks between Armenia and
Azerbaijan within the OSCE Minsk Group framework, he said.
"Armenia can count on France's friendship and assistance. The Caucasus
region is of strategic significance for the world," Sarkozy said.
Sargsyan thanked Sarkozy for his personal contribution to the efforts
toward a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
