A large Armenian community lives in Syria, and Armenia cannot stay
indifferent to their fate. The delegation Academy of Geopolitical
issues has recently visited Syria and had meetings with the leadership
of the country. Its Vice-President Araik Sargsyan says Bashar al
    Assad is preparing serious reforms.

The Armenian community which counts 80-90 thousand, has lived well
both under Hafez Assad and Bashar al Assad, preserving the national
identity. Our compatriots are interested in seeing a democratic
and peaceful Syria. Bashar al Assad intends to hold parliamentary
elections by yearend and keep the political field under control.

"We cooperate with the chief center for strategic studies of Syria
and we want Bashar al Assad to keep power and implement the reforms
he has promised. If he fails to do this by December, the situation
will aggravate, and Assad will have to leave," Araik Sargsyan said.

Araik Sargsyan notes that Turkey does not stay out of this game. He
considers that Turkey is likely to launch military actions against
    Syria.

"Turkey wants to be a leader in the region, it wants to revive the
Ottoman Empire in a different format. Turkey is currently holding
large-scale military actions to the north of Syria, which is a prelude
    to war," he said.
