ALGERIA EXPECTS AN APOLOGY FROM FRANCE
TRT, Turkey
Oct 11 2011
Algeria has strongly reacted to French President Nicolas Sarkozy's
statement that "Turkey should confront its history".
Reminding that French troops brutally killed millions of Algerians
in the colonial period, it was said that "France cannot teach Turkey
a history lesson; it should first look in the mirror."
It was also reminded that France has not apologized yet for crimes
against humanity that it committed in Algeria.
Drawing attention to the fact that 500 thousand Armenians live in
France, it was pointed out that Sarkozy's main objective is Armenian
votes.
Algerian people who remember longingly and admiringly tolerance shown
during the Ottoman period, sympathize with Turks and Turkey.
France is held responsible for the massacre of 1.5 million Algerians
in their struggle for independence between 1945 and 1963.
