SCR CONDUCTS RECONSTRUCTION WORKS IN JAJUR TUNNEL IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, October 12. /ARKA/. South-Caucasian Railways cjsc (SCR)
conducts reconstruction works in Jajur tunnel (north of Armenia),
press-service of the company informs.
"For the prevention of water flow into the tunnel, reconstruction of
drainage system is also implemented. Relevant studies were made for
this purpose, the institute Transproject prepared the design of the
works", states the press-release.
The works conducted in Jajur tunnel will allow to reduce landslide
risks. SCR considers the struggle against landslides very important
which are a serious danger for railway communication.
On October 2, 2011, on 83rd km of interstate highway in the section
Vanadzor-Bagratashen, north of Armenia, near the railway station Ayrum
came a landslide under which about four dozen cars were left. In the
result of the disaster 9 people suffered. Currently the rescuers found
four of five men who were considered missing in the disaster zone.
CJSC "South-Caucasian Railway" is a 100% subsidiary of OJSC "Russian
Railways" implementing concession management of CJSC "Armenian
Railways" according to the Concession Agreement signed on February 13,
2008. Term of the concession is 30 years with the right of extension
for another 10 years.
