In its policy with respect to Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russia keeps
on developing good relations with both countries. Russia exerts big
efforts to do that, but this is the only correct policy, Russian
political expert Andrey Yepifantsev said in an online interview
with ArmInfo.
Yepifantsev gave the interview on the margins of the project
"Alternative Information in Armenian- Azerbaijani Dialogue" of the
Region Research Center (Armenia) and Institute for Peace and Democracy
(Azerbaijan).
"Armenia is a strategic ally of Russia, but Azerbaijan is not
an enemy. Moreover, only by maintaining good relations with both
countries it is possible to increase the impact on the peace process.
Yet, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh demonstrates that the sides are
ready to agree to nothing but their full victory, and the opposite
approaches give no results. Look, Russia is trying to maintain good
relations with both countries; Turkey has clenched with Armenia and
unambiguously supports Baku. But neither of these approaches gives
a positive result", he said.
As regards the Armenian-Turkish relations, Yepifantsev pointed
out that though the Turkish Government has recently included the
Armenian-Turkish Protocols in the Turkish Parliament's agenda again,
reanimation of the ratification process of the Protocols without any
progress in the Karabakh peace process is ruled out.
