Two different camps - the USA and Russia - were interested in the
ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols. But Russia did
not approve this model of rapprochement of Armenia and Turkey and
the process has been frozen, former foreign minister of NKR Arman
Melikyan told a news conference today, adding that it may be claimed
that Russia's intention has been implemented and the establishment
of relations with this approach has been frozen.
"The process started without preamble. The parties were not ready for
it. The result was that the protocols signed with high tempos were not
ratified and the parties remained in previous positions. In its part,
Russia, who presents its interests in the region through Armenia,
had its impact on the process," Melikyan said. According to him, the
further developments proved that though the project of rapprochement
was worked out by the USA the parties more want to see Russia in
this process.
