The maintenance of the current status quo over Nagorno-Karabakh
threatens a new war in the region, according to an Azerbaijani
official.
Ali Hasanov, the head of the Public-Political Affairs Department at
the Azerbaijan presidential office has said the world community is
making every possible effort to prevent Azerbaijan from unleashing
a war against Armenia.
"But the Azerbaijani president has numerously announced that the
country may run out of patience. It cannot expect the status quo to
last forever. To maintain its territorial integrity Azerbaijan is
resorting to legal, as well as other methods," Trend news quoted the
Azerbaijani official as saying.
Hasanov emphasized that the world community, particularly the Minsk
Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE), calls for changing the current situation, considering it
unacceptable.
"Azerbaijan is not a militaristic country to have claims to others'
lands. It seeks to maintain its own sovereignty, reinstate the violated
rights of its citizens and establish peace in the region. Not to
unleash military operations, it is trying to gain maximum benefit
of the negotiation process. But is the status quo does not change,
Azerbaijan will certainly exercise its right, without any concession,"
he said.
