The date of the death of the infamous Spanish arbitrator Iturralde
Gonzales, who was an umpire at the Ireland-Armenia football match,
has appeared at "Wikipedia".
In particular the page telling about Gonzales says that Iturralde
Gonzales was born on 20 February 1967 and died on 11 October 2011 in
Dublin, Ireland.
To recall, Gonzalez penalized Armenia's goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky
with a red card for an alleged handball outside the scoring area. The
recording of the episode has shown that there was no handball on
Berezovsky's part. Even more, in his interview to BBC Irish forward
Simon Cox has said that it was he who handed the ball. Anyway, by his
verdict Gonzalez gave Ireland one-man advantage and bereft Armenia
of the chance to qualify for the play-offs. As a result, Armenia lost
with a score 1:2 and occupied just the 3-rd place with 17 scores.
Nevertheless, this is the best result in the history of the modern
Armenian football.
Meanwhile, passions have been high in Armenia during the last two
days. Our fans are indignant and are discussing the match everywhere,
first of all, on the internet. Some of them have created a special
Facebook community "We Hate Iturralde Gonzales" - a slogan that
reflects the prevalent moods among our fans.
