A group of the parents of soldiers have started an action of protest
in front of the presidential residence.
They demand that the authorities take decisive steps to improve the
situation in the army. They say that the authorities do nothing to
punish those guilty of harassment in the army.
One of the parents said that she has always trusted the Republican
Party of Armenia, but it has betrayed her. "It would be better if my
son was killed by the enemy rather than as a result of violence by his
comrades-in-arms. We do not want our sons to be killed by cannibals,"
she said.
The protesters demand that the authorities thoroughly investigate all
the deaths in the army. They are convinced that Military Prosecutor
Gevork Kostanyan is not mature enough to be able to solve this problem.
The protesters want to meet with the President of Armenia, but the
police are standing in their way.
To remind, several accidents have taken place in the Armenian army in
the last five days, including three suicides by 19-year-old Vladimir
Asatryan and Yuri Nersisyan and 21-year-old Aram Melkonyan.
"This list is growing, and we must do something to stop this," the
protesters say.
