Lieutenant-General Vladimir Gasparyan says the people who protest
against the plight in the army are people without a homeland. He
particularly refers to the organizations which work on foreign grants.
Vladimir Gasparyan announced that they cannot be really sorry for the
army because they are financed or paid from foreign countries. He says
all they care for is more accidents to make more money on them. These
people have never even passed by the army, he says. "We will account
for our acts, you please don't bind your political dreams with the
army, army has never been in politics, army has always been outside
politics, and will not allow provocations to involve the army in
politics," Vladimir Gasparyan says, "A few day ago I read the statement
of one of those groups in newspapers which demand information to be
published on thousands of servicemen. What other orders did you get
from your customers to learn about our army? Maybe you should publish
the list and then stand in line with all your foreign foundations,"
the press release runs.
Let us assume that Vova is right, and these people do not care about
the army, and whenever they voice concern about the problems of the
army, deep inside they are happy that they will make more money.
Let us assume that everything he said is right. However, the question
occurs why the leadership of the Armenian army accepts military
assistance from the same foreign countries, which is a sum of dozens
of millions of dollars annually? Why do they accept the programs of
training of our officers in NATO, in different military organizations?
It is also money, a huge sum. In addition, they do it for reforms in
the Armenian army, to make it modern and effective.
By the way, the people reproached by Vova set forth an interesting
demand - to publish the list of officers who were trained in foreign
military institutions and who still serve in the army. Where are
these officers who certainly comply with the modern requirements
of the armed forces and can change the quality of military service
fundamentally? There were two other demands as well: information about
the military service of the Armenian high-ranking officials and the
list of organizations which won the tenders for military procurement,
including food, medicine, uniforms, stationary.
Now it is clear why Vova is so angry. It is difficult to answer
these questions, isn't it? Everyone knows about the food they give to
soldiers, more exactly the food which they don't give to soldiers,
don't they? Everyone knows about financial misuse in procurement,
don't they?
Here is patriotism. Having a homeland is the calories stolen from
soldiers, wealth gained at the expense of the army, use of the army
for personal needs. To make this blessed situation last, everything
should be done to leave everything the way it is. And everyone who
thinks that the army belongs to people, that it is maintained on
taxpayer money and that they have the right to demand improvement of
the situation are people without a homeland.
And in the end, one question. Who are you to accuse the society of
spying, even if you try to "reduce" the framework of protesters to
separate groups? Why do you think you have the right to accuse people
whose sons serve in the army of politicizing the issue? Why shouldn't
they? Because politicization will be followed by resignation?
