Azerbaijan is expected to acquire 60 Orbiter 2M and Aerostar unmanned
aerial vehicles (UAV) from Israel by the end of the year.
According to the Azerbaijani news website 1news.az, Baku will purchase
them from the Israeli Aeronautics Defense Systems of Israel company.
The agreement stands out in the sense, the online newspaper said,
that the 30% of the components of those UAVs are produced by the
Baku's Azad Systems Co. - a joint Azerbaijani-Israeli enterprise
based in Azerbaijan.
Earlier in September an Azerbaijani UAV was shot down while making
a reconnaissance flight in the air space of Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku
denied it had sent the UAV to Karabakh.
The Armenian relevant bodies are investigating the remnants of the
UAV to find out its origin that might in turn reveal whether it was
purchased or produced in Azerbaijan.
