Armenia takes chairmanship in CIS council of interior ministers
YEREVAN October 14
The Council of CIS Interior Ministers opened its regular meeting here
on Friday. Under the regulations of the Council of CIS Interior
Ministers Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev passed the
rotating chairmanship in the council to Armenian police chief Alik
Sarkisyan.
"During Russia's rotating chairmanship after the St. Petersburg
meeting of the Council of CIS Interior Ministers in 2010 all necessary
organizational measures were taken to pursue a stronger strategic
policy for all-round cooperation between the CIS Interior Ministries,"
Nurgaliyev recalled. "The efficient information exchange system was
established urgently and it is important now keep building up our
efforts to combat the entire range of crimes without any slowdown," he
said.
The Council of CIS Interior Ministers always paid a close attention to
the working discipline in various organizational ways, Nurgaliyev
noted. "National and departmental ways of control up to the debates
over the decisions taken at the previous meetings were used for this,"
he noted. The agreements reached at the St. Petersburg meeting of the
Council of CIS Interior Ministers were also put into practice. The
honorary badge and the honorary certificate of the Council of CIS
Interior Ministers approved at that meeting were already made. The
Russian interior minister offered to discuss an opportunity for
awarding the most distinguished police officers in view of the events
on the occasion of the 20th CIS anniversary.
Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble is participating in the
Yerevan meeting of the council. "His attention to the issues, which we
are planning to discuss today, points to their importance not only in
the CIS states, but also on the international scene," the interior
minister believes.
"The Yerevan meeting of the Council of CIS Interior Ministers is held
in the year of the 20th CIS anniversary," Sarkisyan recalled. "The
main result of our interior ministers for this period of time is the
creation of conditions for gradual development of mutually beneficial
cooperation and counteraction to modern challenges and threats," he
pointed out.
Sarkisyan believes that the current meeting "will give a fresh impetus
to the interior ministries and the police in the CIS states and will
build up cooperation between our agencies on the guidelines of our
service activities."
