A car accident killed one conscript and injured two others on
Yerevan-Sevan motorway at around 8pm on October 16.
The conscripts had left their army unit in Yerevan with permission
but they were forbidden to leave the administrative territory of the
capital city which they appear to have ignored.
Vladimir Gasparyan, deputy defense minister and chief of military
police, expressed his condolences to the family of Edmond Alexanyan,
the conscript who died in the accident.
Gasparyan also said that the soldiers were not allowed to leave
Yerevan garrison which they did by violating army regulations.
"As a rule, soldiers receive relevant instructions by their commanders
before the short leave," said Gasparyan.
"In this case, those soldiers, following the urgings of their relatives
left the garrison territory of Yerevan and went to the direction of
Sevan," said Gasparyan, adding that the incident took place on their
way back with the same car.
Further, he called on parents to avoid unnecessary intervention in
soldiers' routine in an attempt to avoid such consequences.
