    FRANCE WILL SEEK TO INCREASE ITS INVESTMENTS IN ARMENIA

    YEREVAN, October 17. / ARKA /. France, which is the second largest
    foreign investor in Armenia, will seek to strengthen its positions
    here, French ambassador to Armenia, Henry Renaud, said today.

    "Economic relations between Armenia and France are at quite high level
    with many French companies operating here, small and large, like France
    Telecom~Rs subsidiary Orange Armenia, representing different areas,
    from manufacturing to services," he said.

    According to Renaud, Paris is particularly interested in increasing
    its presence in trade, since Armenia has great potential. He also
    stressed that the strengthening of ties between Armenia and France
    is closely linked with the development of Armenia-EU partnership
    and added that the negotiations on the association agreement between
    Yerevan and EU move ahead rapidly.

    "Successful implementation of the commitments undertaken in the
    negotiations, the approximation to EU standards, institutional reform
    give new impetus to the economic development of Armenia and allow it
    to enter the European market", said ambassador.

    According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, foreign
    investments into Armenia~Rs real economy sector n January-June 2011
    increased by 28.8% year-on-year to $421.9 million. The largest foreign
    investor was the Russian Federation with $206.6 million, France was
    second with $ 68.1 million and USA was third with $35.2 million.

    Together these countries accounted for 49%, 16.1% and 8.3% of all
    foreign investments respectively.
