People in Nagorno-Karabakh should live in autonomy, the Azerbaijani
president has said.
Ilham Aliyev made the statement in an interview with Aljazeera TV
when asked about a possibility of finding a peaceful solution to the
Karabakh-Azerbaijani conflict.
"We are hopeful that a peaceful solution can be found. That would be
in the interest of all the countries. But this solution must be based
on international law. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be
restored, Armenian forces should leave all the occupied territories,
Azerbaijanis should return to the territories of their original
settlement, including NK, and people in Nagorno-Karabakh should live
in autonomy," he said.
As for the situation on the Line of Contact, the Azerbaijani leader
described it fragile, saying that the country does not have any peace.
"We have ceasefire agreement which was achieved in 1994 and we don't
have peace. Therefore no one can exclude any kind of scenario on
the line of Contact. So therefore the sooner a solution is found the
better for everyone, including Armenia," he added.
