Even if President of France Nicolas Sarcozy does not sleep at nights
trying to make France play the leading part in the Karabakh conflict
settlement, all the same, the situation will not change in the near
future, director of the Caucasus Institute, political expert Aleksandr
Iskandaryan said at today's press-conference.
"At present, Russia is playing the leading part in the OSCE Minsk Group
and in Karabakh settlement. It is not accidental, as Moscow has taken
the leadership not independently but after getting the carte blanche
from the rest co-chair states. That happened after the November meeting
of the presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan in Maindorf, by
the results of which the Declaration on Nagornyy Karabakh conflict
settlement was signed, immediately after the Russian-Georgian war

He also added that taking into consideration the geographical
proximity, it is easier for Russia but not the USA or France to work
in this region. "For this reason, the role of Russia in the Karabakh
settlement will not change in the near future, as no changing of the
