Armenian Ambassador to Italy Ruben Karapatyan visited the country's
most important sea port - the western town of Civitavecchia (Lazio
region) - on Wednesday.
According to a press release by the Foreign Ministry, the diplomat
met with the students of Antonio De Curtis school, which is the only
school in the region declared as a UNESCO world heritage site. Earlier
this year, it was also declared a sister school with Yerevan's Marie
Izmiryan Orphanage.
The students had prepared a special musical program for the
ambassador. A former member of the European Parliament, Alessandro
Battilocchio, presented a film about their visit to Yerevan this
summer.
Karapetyan conveyed to the students the greetings of their friends in
Yerevan and promised to organize mutual visits in future to establish
a closer friendship between them. He further informed them about the
Armenian Government's recent move to make chess studies a mandatory
subject in secondary schools. The ambassador also donated to the
school a chess set with figures made of Armenian stones.
He later met with the governor of Lazio region, Luigi Landi to discuss
possibilities of developing decentralized collaboration. Both parties
stressed the importance of such format of partnership, considering
it a groundwork for the development and deepening of bilateral ties.
