"President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev always keeps an eye on
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and raises this issue at important
meetings with world leaders," Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev
stated in Almaty after a meeting with the Kazakh president.

President Aliyev said Azerbaijan is grateful to Kazakhstan for its
stance in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Kazinform reports.

Aliyev said it is necessary to end the conflict and the occupation of
our territories. Resolutions of the UN Security Council, the highest
    international instance, should be implemented.

"The UN Security Council adopted four resolutions on the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict demanding immediate and unconditional
withdrawal of the Armenian occupying forces from Azerbaijani
territories," President Aliyev stressed. "Unfortunately, they are
not fulfilled. Our territorial integrity has been violated."

"Azerbaijan could achieve even greater successes during the years of
independence if there was no such a difficult problem. We are committed
to addressing this issue within international law and Helsinki Final
Act, which clearly defines the principles and priorities of countries'
    territorial integrity," he said.

President Aliyev said he paid the third official visit to Kazakhstan
    over the past seven years.

"Such mutual contacts are a vivid evidence of out great attention
to mutual relations," he added. "Our relations are based on solid
historical grounds, and they have a long history."

According to President Aliyev, today the two fraternal and independent
states are building their relations based on partnership and friendly
    relations.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. -
are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
    surrounding regions.
