ARMENIAN NUCLEAR PLANT CAN WITHSTAND MINIMUM 9 MGNT QUAKES

The Ministry of Emergency Situations has issued a statement, saying
that yesterday's earthquake in the Turkey measured 9-10 magnitudes,
the epicenter being 160 km far from the Metsmor Nuclear Power Plant.
According to the Ministry, the quake on the territory of Armenia was
3-5 magnitudes.
It comes after the Turkish media's recent reports claiming that the
earthquake in the town of Van affected the Armenia's Nuclear Plant.
The Ministry said in response the plant is designed to withstand 9+
magnitude earthquakes.
It added that the quake in Turkey has not affected any building or
construction in Armenia.
NPP General Director Gagik Markosyan has said the earthquake on
their territory was 2-3 magnitudes, adding that the plant is now
under scheduled repair.
