    Two state visits during a little more than a year are evidence of
    the positive content typical of only nations that are very close to
    each other and build up their ties in the spirit of a true alliance,
    Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated at a news conference held
    jointly with his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev, in Moscow.

    The Armenian leader noted that the sides managed to ensure steady
    progress in political dialogue, implementation of new economic
    projects, humanitarian contacts and interregional ties.

    At their meeting, the Armenian and Russian leaders discussed all the
    issues of mutual interest. "Russia has been Armenia's major trade
    partner and remains undisputed leader in investment and in the number
    of joint ventures," President Serzh Sargsyan said.

    The Armenian leader pointed out trade and economic potential, as
    well as in energy, agriculture and construction sectors. Armenia and
    Russia should give impetus to interregional cooperation, cooperation
    in tourism, investment projects and high technologies.

    The Armenian and Russian leaders discussed cooperation within
    international institutions, exchanged views on regional problems
    and on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Armenian president thanked
    his Russian counterpart, as well as Russian FM, for their consistent
    mediatory efforts in this area, as well as in close cooperation with
    the other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries. President Serzh
    Sargsyan noted that it is through the three countries' mediation
    that the L'Aquila, Muskoka and Deauville statements outlining the
    principles of settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

    "At today's meeting, I re-affirmed Armenia's commitment to the soonest
    settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by peaceful means on the
    basis of international legal norms that constitute a single whole. It
    is in this aspect that we see a settlement of the problem, possibility
    of exercising fundamental rights and freedoms along with guarantees
    of peace, security and stability," President Serzh Sargsyan said.
