In the frames of its corporate social responsibility Orange continues
implementing projects directed to community development. A modern
computer center, furnished with broadband internet, was opened in
Tavush village of Tavush region with joint efforts of Orange, "Shen"
NGO and the local community.
The newly opened computer center of the village having 1800 inhabitants
is equipped with 6 computers, printer/scanner, Orange Flybox router
and comfortable furniture, which will enable the inhabitants not only
to be connected with the world, but also to participate in computer
courses. For implementation of this project Orange has allotted total
AMD 2,348,860. As Arthur Hovhannisyan, the Head of Tavush village,
said, only 10% of the families of the village had computers and
internet at home, thus, the computer center would be a real "public
window" to internet.
Bruno Duthoit, Orange Armenia CEO, said: "We are a telecommunication
company, and the objective and mission of our business is to make
state-of-art communication means accessible to everyone. To this
end we have built a large 3G+ network and made broadband internet
accessible even to the borderline settlements. We believe that by
providing access to the inhabitants of remote settlements to the world
of state-of-art technologies, we not only make their life easier, the
distance between their friends and relatives shorter, but also enable
them in many respects to enjoy the same benefits as the inhabitants
of Yerevan. One of the fundamentals at the heart of the philosophy
of our corporate social responsibility is to make our technologies
serve the idea of inclusion and development of remote communities."
As in case of other similar projects, this time as well the project
has been implemented by joint efforts with the local community. The
computer center will be under the care of one of the local NGOs,
which will ensure its sustainability and long-term success.
This initiative of Orange was implemented in the frames of the
strategic program of support to sustainable development of remote and
vulnerable communities, which aims to boost and support social and
economic development of these communities and enable them to fully
benefit from the opportunities provided by high technologies.
