Russia helps Armenia in getting modern military hardware, Armenian
Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian said.
"You know that during the state visit to Armenia by Dmitry Medvedev
in August last year, the parties signed the Fifth protocol to an
agreement regarding the Russian military base in Armenia. This
agreement contains a clause that the Russian military base, along
with the defense of the Russian Federation interests, along with
the Armenian Armed Forces, provides security for the Republic of
Armenia, and for these purposes, Russia assists Armenia in getting
modern military hardware and weapons. This says it all," Nalbandian
said in an interview with Interfax ahead of a state visit to Russia
by the Armenian president on October 23-25.
In August 2010, the Armenian Defense Ministry and the Russian Federal
Service for Military-Technical Cooperation signed a memorandum of
cooperation on military hardware repair and maintenance, Nalbandian
recalled
"The relevant government departments in both countries are taking
steps to implement the agreements reflected in the said memorandum.
There are results, but this concerns the specifics of cooperation
between the relevant government departments. So necessary efforts
are being made," the Armenian foreign minister said.
