Armenia
On October 24 Khachik Harutyunyan, Chairman of the NA Standing
Committee on Agriculture and Environment, met the delegation led by
Luc Maene, Director General of the International Fertilizer Industry
Association (IFA).
The possibilities of cooperation in fertilizer industry and its
use, as well as the existing problems of the field in Armenia were
discussed. Presenting the fertilizer market Khachik Harutyunyan has
talked about the most important problem, the absence of communication
ways with two neighbours, as a result of which, our republic imports
fertilizer only from Iran and Georgia. "While, the republic has the
need of potassium, phosphate and combined fertilizers," the Committee
Chairman noted. "The state has exempted the fertilizer from the customs
duty, value added tax, also provided subsidies during the previous
years in order to help the farmer," Mr. Harutyunyan continued and
added that today works are done for this end. The state also supports
the attempts of chemical and organic fertilizer production.
"The aim of the International Fertilizer Industry Association is
to study the market on spot and to assess the possibility of the
investments. Armenia is an agricultural country, and it's important to
provide the cultivators with qualitative fertilizers," Mr. Maene noted,
highly appreciating the quality of the Armenian fruit and vegetable. In
April of the next year the Association is going to organize a meeting
in Tashkent, and according to Mr. Maene's assessment, this will be
a good platform for cooperation and joint programmes. 525 companies
from 85 countries are already included in the Association.
