MANILA, Philippines - Hard-hitting Armenian fighter Vic Darchinyan
is hoping for a rematch with Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire even
as he prepares to take on the dangerous Anselmo Moreno in December.
Darchinyan says he is willing to move up in weight in order to chase
a fight with Donaire, the king of the bantamweight division who is
already planning a move to junior featherweight.
"My goal is I want to fight Nonito Donaire, he's moving up to 122
pounds," Darchinyan told BoxingScene.com.
Donaire scored a sensational knockout victory over Darchinyan in 2007,
ending the Armenian's 28-bout winning streak. Donaire flattened the
Armenian with a left hook, leading the referee to stop the bout and
award the Filipino a 5th round technical knockout win.
It was eventually awarded Knockout of the Year and Upset of the Year.
In order to pursue a rematch with Donaire, Darchinyan will have to
get past Moreno, who he says is a technical fighter.
"I think his mind is going to be, win every round, not to knock me
out. He's not a good puncher," Darchinyan said. "I'm not saying it's
going to be easy to beat him or knock him out. It's going to be hard."
