CIS COUNTRIES DISCUSS COOPERATION IN PEACEFUL USE OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

YEREVAN, October 26. / ARKA /. Armenian capital city Yerevan hosted
today the 12-th meeting of the CIS Commission for Use of Nuclear
Energy for Peaceful Purposes and also a meeting of international
working groups.
Armenian deputy minister of energy and natural resources,
Areg Galstyan, told reporters that the meeting was attended by
representatives of six CIS countries Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Tajikistan, Armenia and Ukraine. He recalled that this past May the
CIS Council of Heads of Government adopted a framework cooperation
program for these six countries in the area of peaceful use of nuclear
energy until 2020.
He said today~Rs meeting participants discussed a plan of action to
implement the framework agreement, another agreement on coordination of
interstate relations in use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes,
an agreement on the application of international standards for safety
control of nuclear technology for peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
"We also discussed a few very important documents that will govern our
cooperation in the field of nuclear medicine, radiology, as well as
specific programs, including on the creation of international centers
of learning for professionals from the CIS," Galstyan said.
The Russian side was represented by the ministry of economic
development, Rostekhnadzor, State Corporation Rosatom, a delegation
of the National Nuclear Research University, State Scientific Center -
Research Institute of Atomic Reactors, Research Institute for Technical
Physics and Automation.
Also in attendance were representatives of the CIS Executive
Committee.
