One of the greatest violinists of the 20th and 21st centuries,
world-renowned Israeli violinist Pinchas Zukkerman is in Armenia.
Today he will join the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia for
a concert at Aram Khachatryan Hall.
Asked to assess the Armenian Orchestra, the musician did not answer,
he just held his thumb up.
"I'm very glad to return to Yerevan, the city has become even more
beautiful, lively and clean. I hope this progress will not stop and
will be continuous," Zukkerman told a press conference today.
The world is living an economic downfall, but we are doing our best
for the crisis not to affect our music, the musician said. "We have
worked out a special policy of concessions; we make compromises on
our honorees to be able to continue to present our art to the world,"
he added.
Which is the dearest award of his life? The two-time Grammy winner
musician said the dearest award is still ahead. However, he said his
granddaughter was an invaluable gift to him.
Pinchas Zukkerman is known also as a violist and conductor. His
ongoing 45-year career has seen him perform with the world's best-known
orchestras and record over 100 works. Zukerman has held the position
of Principal Conductor and Music Director of Ottawa's National Arts
Centre Orchestra since April 1998, and the position of Principal
Guest Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra since 2009.
It's noteworthy that Zukkerman has proposed cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan
to cooperate.
