Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov has met Australian
ambassador to Ankara also with concurrent accreditation to Azerbaijan
Ian Biggs.
The ambassador congratulated Azerbaijan on election as non-permanent
member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013 and wished Azerbaijan
success in this respect, the sources in the Foreign Ministry said.
On his part, Minister Mammadyarov gave the Australian ambassador an
insight on energy strategy of Azerbaijan and country's involvement
with various regional and international projects.
Speaking about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and
current state of affairs, the minister noted that the fact that the
international community maintains status quo in the conflict resolution
is unacceptable and that Armenian armed forces need to withdraw from
occupied lands of Azerbaijan to resolve the conflict.
The ambassador Biggs said he backs Azerbaijan in resolution of the
Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and voiced hope that
the conflict would be solved peacefully soon.
The sides also noted that it is important to expand legal and
contractual framework between the two countries and enhancing
cooperation in a number of fields.
